    Dry clothes for winter fishing

We recently had a little discussion on our bass club message board about what happens if you go overboard in winter fishing conditions ( cold air and water). One guy brought up a good point. If you are lucky enough to make it back into your boat, you still have a good chance of hypothermia unless you have warm and dry clothes. Running 10 miles back to the truck soaking wet on a 50 degree day would probably kill you.

Anyways this discussion was enough to get me to throw an extra pair of clothes into the boat. I found that a good way to store them is in a soft sided cooler. This will keep them dry and neatly stored. I am a big boy and easily fit in a spare pair of jeans, shirt and socks into a 6 pack sized bag. Takes up very little room in a storage box, rod locker, or under the console.

Bass Boat $40,000- Tackle & Electronics $3,000 - 10 minutes in 45 degree water without PFD, Boarding device & Dry warm clothes $6,500 (funeral expenses).

Great idea. I usually carry extra clothing in my duck boat and will start doing so in the fishing boat. Thanks again!!!

Re: Dry clothes for winter fishing (catchatoad)

I have a food saver and I vacum packed a pair of sweat pants and a sweat shirt for emergency. It it a very compact way to store a pair of dry clothes. I have fallen out of a boat befor and thankfully it was in the middle of summer.

I vacum pack dry clothing in thos space bags that they advertise on tv. Just suck the air out with a vacum cleaner. Works great.
