    Rusting hooks

I don't know if I'd call this a tip or not but when going thru my hooks/baits I have some rusting. I usually leave my baits out to dry before returning them to the box. When Bought new hooks i sprayed them all down, including the hooks on my baits, with RemOil. It's a protectant I use on my firearms and contains Teflon. It should keep them from rusting but I guess time will tell. Anybody else used this type of idea before?

The only thing that would concern me is how would this oil have an effect on fish. I have heard that just putting a chew inyour mouth then touching your bait can have an effect on catching. So I just wonder if any oils on the bait might detract fish.

Try 'Reel Magic'. It does the same thing and supposedly doesn't bother the fish. I spray it on my baitcasters that I have spooled with mono throughout the day and it helps with casting distance and reduces backlashes. I've always got 2 or 3 cans/bottles of that stuff onboard.

It also works well to silence a squeaky cam on my hunting bow.

Any, well almost any, oil based product will work. I spray my stuff with the same garlic oil I spray on baits. Seems to work.

WD 40 help out. I do my hook box about once or twice a month, they all stay perfect. I have not had a negative reaction of the fish due to the oil. In fact, many angler I know have used it as an attractant, just my .02

I was useing WD-40 as a fish attractant on large cod jigs for years when i worked on a Ocean Charter boat in NH..Would rent the large jigs out for 5 bucks a day..If you where one of my regular customers i would rub her down good with WD before renting her out and people always seemed to do better with the "Rubbed" jigs

WD-40 used to be a big thing for salmon on Lake Ontario.
Guys used to spray their trolling spoons, said it made the fish bite better.
A co-worker that fishes there a lot told me that.

Be Careful boys, WD-40 is not allowed as an attractent on many tournament trails.
As far as being effective, you will not find anything even close to the effectivness. thus the banning on many trails including I believe BASS and operation Bass.
