If your motor suffered from a mechanical failure, thus causing the rebuild, you need to find that problem and repair it. If not, you will be rebuilding again. So I've been told...

+1 need to figure why it went in the first place and correct that issue. When that is fixed and the machining is done and everything put back together is should be as good as new.
Could a worn clutch dog cause mechanical failure. I was told 2 cylinders went down and were baddly scored. You could also here the motor knocking somewhat after the failure. When the motor went down I was going wide open down the lake and she just died on me like a got an air pocket in the line. I shut her down befor she quit on her own . I tried to start her after a minute or 2`; she would turn over but start up. After I got back to the ramp about an hour and a half later I tried one more time. She started up but was running really ruff. I checked the plugs and they looked ok; but decided to change them anyway; so I did that on thye way home and put her in the water to see if it would make a difference. She still was running ruff so I took her too my mechanic. He told me about the 2 cylinders and figured a rod was going. I bought this powerhead used last year and it never performed like my old powerhead. I was down 400 rpm`s and approx. 6-8 mph from my old powerhead. Ive been bitten too many times but I cant afford a new one.
A compression test will tell you for sure. Worn clutch dog will just make it jump in and out of gear. No telling what you got when you got the used power head.
Thanks for the info ChampioNman
