I just bought a 1994 johnson venom Model #J225STLERK. I am having a problem keeping the thing running. I seems like a fuel problem. I went trough the carburators and everything seemed to be fine. All the jets were clean and there wasnt any trash in the bowls. The primer bulb is sucking gas but gets hard to the point where it cant be squeezed. The VRO is disconnected and the wires to the fuel pump are unplugged. Im trying to figure out if the fuel pump is bad but i dont know how to trouble shoot it. I dont know how the pump works and is it supposed to be getting some sort of power? Anyway im starting the motor and it starts easy right away after priming but then it doesnt stay running more than about a min and then kills. If i try to give it throttle it just bogs it down and kills it. I also checked to compression and 5 cylinders were around 100 PSI and the top left cylinder was 130 PSI. Not understanding why this was like this i decided to pop the heads and inspect. I found that the high psi cylinder was missing the exaust rilief hole that is drilled at the end of the cylinder wall. I dont know if it came from the factory this way or if the cylinder was re sleeved and the hole was not drilled. Evinrude said that motor was not resleevable??? wich doesnt seem right to me either. SO i need to figure out this fuel problem and if running this motor with 5 cylinders at 100 psi and one at 130 psi will hurt it.![]()
Thanks for the Help!!!
