Evinrude 150 Ficht ????????

I have a 1998 Evinride Ficht 150 serial# 044130043. Early this week the check engine light came on the s.l.o.w. system that I have on the boat. Took it to a dealer that read the code. The code said that their was water in the gas. Originally said the sensor was bad. But now says that I need a new ECU =$$$$$. I asked if a used one could be install but said no. Anyone ever have this happen to them??

There's a water sensor in some of the old Ficht engine mounted fuel filter. It is telling you (not to be a smart a$$) that you have water in your fuel. Change your fuel, purge your lines, replace your filter and try again. With ethanol you cannot always see the water unless it sits a long time.

I've had that light 3 different times. the first two times I had it rebuilt,which lasted about 11/2 to 2 yrs. . The last time I ordered a new one from OMC and its been good for several years now.

On your 1998 FICHT the water sensor has a connector on the bottom of the fuel filter. If the same code is set while the sensor is unhooked, trace the wire from the sensor to the EMM plug to see if there is any abrasion, pinching, or shorting to ground. If all checks out, then the problem is likely in the ECU. Contact DFI technologies for repair info and pricing.
