I just recarpeted my 03 185 stratos, I used 20 oz. from boat carpet sales, it looks awesome, but if i had to do it again id buy 24oz just because its a little thicker, which should last a little longer. just a little helpful advice , for the money and time saved go to lowes and buy a ROCKWELL SONIC CRAFTER , get some flexible blades, saves tons of time scraping their awesome!!!!!!!!! grab a gallon of acetone also gets off all the excess residue. GOOD LUCK.

I use nothing but Bass Cat carpet. I feel it is the best in the business, and it is 24oz.

    Re: CARPET OPINIONS (nateky05)

My Dad and I went with 20 oz. carpet straight from Ranger, and I have no idea how much it cost, as he paid for most of it (I threw him some money, and he took care of the rest).

I don't have any complaints. I wanted to get carpet from Basscat, based on most suggestions, but my Dad was stubborn and stuck with Ranger. That was actually a good thing, as most of the lids are pretty damn tight with the 20 oz carpet. If I had gone with 24 oz, I would have had to shave the carpet down on the lid faces in order to open them.

Even after a full season of fishing, the livewell lids, and adjacent lids, still require two people to open them because the carpet is so tight. I had hoped a full season would wear it in, but I think at this point I have no choice but to shave the faces down on that.

Before you order, measure, measure, and measure again, the gaps between lids, to make sure you don't order carpet that is too thick.

Just finished my 20' Ranger. I looked at and obtained samples from just about everywhere. I went with Bass cat and couldnt be happier. The carpet appears superior to the other samples and looks great on the boat. Not that expensive and the Bass cat people were nice to deal with.

Of all the boats I have re-carpeted, I haven't had to shave any compartment lids down......

I would like to use the carpet from Basscat but it only comes in 6' wide rolls and I need 8' for my Nitro.

    Re: CARPET OPINIONS (Dan_T)

I used some .com boat carpet
20 oz. Looks good/just hope itll hold up over time. It's already layin up on the bow after one season. I think i'll power wash it good before I put it away to try to get it to stand up
little bit of shavin on the lids
paid a guy 400 to put it in cause i chickend out
Did all the hard labor: Glue Removal, lid and hardware removal.
My palms and wrists were sore for days after using that punch tool to find all the holes in the lids for the hinges.
One job I will never tackle again but it was quite an adventure
