before we start ,i have read the rules of posting, however due to circumstances beyond my control, i will post without having the model number. Was involved in motor vehicvle accident while working (delivering mail) last yearand have lost ability to walk unassisted(walker). Consquenly getting the model number of my engine would require me to go outside down a flight of stairs with a walker for support and hopefully be abe to find the model number on engine before I'm unable to stand any longer. This is not only time consuming but an exhausting task for me to negoiate ,in my condition.
Back to the question, i'm havng a repetitive problem with cold starting.but recently my son after removing the cover of the motor, adjusted the red knob to the upward postion(knob you place upward to fogg the engine for winterizing),Motor started in a couple turns of key. There was heavy smoking off oil and then engine died when placed in neutrall Low idle. Moved knob back into down position and engine started within a couple turns of key. ENGINE WOULD RUN PERFECT THE REST OF THE DAY, Starting ON FIRST TURN OF KEY.
What does this red knob do ? Give more gas or oil? and considering that whatever the knob does after moving up ,then returning back to down position the engine will start and run the rest of the day does anyone have a recommendation on the original problem. Would take it in for repairs but that will result in missing two to four weeks of fishing. And the season is short enough up north.
Its really embarrassing asking newly acquired fishing partners (advertisements placed)) to lean over motor to unsnap motor cover. No longer work ,but need partner to drive tow vehicle to lake and assist in getting into and out of boat.
