I am in the process of restoring my 01 Stratos 20xl. I have sanded the whole boat and made all gel coat repairs that were needed. I am to the point now where i need some factual information on the painting over gel coat process. Primers, Reducers, Base coats, exc... I cant find anything straight forward on this topic and everything i read, someone does it different.

find a specialty body shop that does corvettes. they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
Do it gel Coat. Paint will not last nearly as long as paint, dont care what the so called experts say. Most dont re-gel due to the amount of labor involved.

To answer your question, as long as you have "scratched" the surface of the gel and have no shiny areas, then epoxy primer will fill the pores and stick to the gelcoat,then you can paint after you have that level. If you use 3-4 coats of clear, then wetsand then 3 more clearcoats you will have as tough a cover as gelcoat, auto clearcoat is tough, you just have to layer it on and build it up. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but if you can afford imron paint, look into it.
seems if you dont have experiance with paints or gel-coat may as well go with the gel coat.
i have no experience with gel-coat or gel coat painting. as far as paint itself, i do.
