    Making Hull Clean/White Again???

I have a 2004 Stratos 285xl. It is mostly white with gold stripes. I can't seem to get my hull back to white. I wipe my boat down everytime i get off the water but i guess from years of use it stained the hull. It is like a creme color. I have tried washing, waxing, Buffing and cant seem to get this permanant scum line off.

what product out there can do the trick for me to get my boat back to white?

Have you tried to wet sand it off? This is what I do on white gel and it will take off any water stains that's on the boat. Then compound and buff and it will look new. I know there are a few products out that will chemically remove the stains, but I have never used them. Look at the posted pinned at the top and it will walk you though the wet sanding process.

I was looking into a product called Starbrite Hull Cleaner. It is an acid based product and seems to have good reviews, but do not know the effects of acid will have on the hull.

Use the starbrite hull cleaner. It will take out the stains and not hurt the gel.
Almost all of the fiberglass hull cleaners are Oxalic acid or Muriatic acid or a combination of them.
Sno Bowl toilet bowl cleaner is somewhat similar.
They will usually remove just about any imbedded stains in the gelcoat, just make sure to cover the trailer/ fenders / tires with some plastic.
Follow the directions and rinse with clean water, then wax good.

I appreciate the help. I will post some before and after pics so other people can see the difference in them. Probably will not get to it till this weekend though.

    Thanks for the help.

I also own a white boat and had the same problem as you. I used this gel that is called On&Off made by MaryKate, it worked like a champ.

On & Off is the same type cleaner, mixture of Muriatic and Oxalic acid, works the same way as Starbrite or Nu- Hull.
They all work well taking off imbedded scum lines or mud stains.

best to wear gloves with that stuff too. I used star bright, and it damn near took my skin off. skin on my thumb and index finger is flaking, and gave me a nice red rash down my forearm until i washed it off.

I also had the same problem a couple weeks back, got some Atwood premium hull cleaner from wal-mart for like $8.00.(Figured I'd give it a shot before having to wet sand the Hull) It surprisingly worked great. Spray on, let it set a couple minutes, and hosed off with water. It is whiter now than it is was when I got it. Be sure to buff and wax afterwards to seal the gel back up. been out twice since then with no scum line at all.

josh is right for sure be sure to wear gloves and some kinda respirator to breathe through b/c that stuff ain't no joke. If your skin don't try to fall off, your lungs will feel like they're smoldering.

Academy sells some cleaner, i think its called ASR. Not real sure but it worked on my 04 285 Magnum. Looked like it had never been washed when i got it and it made it look new again. Its in a small tub, looks like blue jello.
