    Where to start?

I was out running the boat on Sunday and while running I heard a loud click so I slowed down and idled my way back to the no wake zone. While idling I heard the click two other times and then the motor started to rattle quite a bit until it shut off... I started the motor back up and all I could get was 1800 rmps and was unable to even put the boat on the trailer without using a rope. I trailered the boat brought it back home to look at the motor and I have a bunch of metal shavings as well as oil in the bottom of the motor. I found two nickel size pieces that looked like a shotgun slug. I know this is probably worse than I want it to be but before I tried to figure out what I should do I wanted to get a little help..

The motor is a 1992 Johnson 200 GT I can get the model number when I get home from work..
    Thanks in advance..

If the pieces you are talking about were in the belly pans on the left side. Pull the starter off and look at the crank case. You'll probably find where they go. Hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe you'll get lucky and they were pieces of flywheel magnets.

Yes the majority of the pieces, basically everything was found on the left side of the pan. So from the sounds of the reply I have a chance of a somewhat inexpensive repair? As far as pulling the starter off and looking at the crank case what will I be looking for there? Or will it be noticeable that something important is destroyed? Thank you for the help I am just trying to do as much as I can without spending the $100 dollars an hour to send it somewhere!

You will be looking for a hole in the side of the block.

    FOUND IT....

What should I do now? Is there anything I can do to cut back on cost.. I am guessing that I will have to have it rebuilt and there is a guy here in the area that works on OEM motors that just fixed a friends motor for 2,800 and he had the same issue.. Second... What are possible causes of me throwing a rod? I always check my pressure when I am running and rpms and both were normal until I heard the clank... And then it was all down hill... I would assume I have a temp alarm if my motor was to overheat and I have never heard it... This is my first boat/motor and I want to do whatever I can to learn from this since that is about the only thing positive I can get out of this after all.. Thank you for your help Champ...
