    Sanding Oxidation

I may have used a bit too gritty sand paper initially... I'm now using 1500 and 2000 grit wet dry. Any way, I have some scratches that aren't coming out with the 1500 and 2000 on the black sparkle part of my boat. It just seems that the super fine paper, 1500 and 2000, aren't really doing enough.

What can I do to get them to go away?
    Thanks,
    Mud Shark

What grit did you initially start out with ?

To remove the scratches you need to move up the ladder with grits. If you started with 600, you need to move to 800 to remove the 600 marks, then move to 1000 to remove the 800 marks.
A medium cut compound will usually remove the 1000/1200 marks.

    +1

Also if your doing this by hand, when you move up to the next grit go in the opposite direction. that seems to help a little bit.

There is no Paint on the boat. It is Gelcoat, a polyester resin that if not kept waxed will start to fade and turn chalky colored from a chemical reaction with the UV rays from the sun.
Gelcoat, unlike paint, is fairly thick and can be wet sanded and compounded down to remove the chalky residue from the pores in the gelcoat and leave basically a newer layer of gelcoat that can be waxed to shine.
