    What would you recommend?

I have a 1998 Champion 186 boat that I bought new and I have kept it under cover in a shed. I want to wax it really good and was also wondering if I need to buff it. Of course it has a few scratches , but overall I think it is in really good shape. I do have one scratch on the top that I got when I bumped underneath a concrete pier. I also know I need to was it really well and get rid of the scum ring around the bottom. What would all of you experts recommend that I do to my boat? Also, what type of wax and/or buffing material would you recommend?

Here is a picture of the scratch I was talking about.

I dont see any reason to wetsand at all,,Id pick up some good 3-m cleaner wax ,and follow up with some perfect it wax /sealer use with a buffer and id think that would shine like new.The compound may hide some of those scratches or at least make them less visable,..I believe you can still buy a kit from 3-m with all of the different steps for around 35 dollars or so

Where can I find the 3m cleaner wax and what type of 3m wax? Also, when you say follow it up with some wax/sealer with a buffer, are you talking about putting the wax on and then using a buffer with a cloth to get the wax off?

3m works great and so does the mcguires. i just used it on my boat and it got off most of the eyesores i had on it. it comes in a kit also just like the 3m, you can't go wrong with either. i put mine on with the buffer and also took it off by hand...all 3 steps i did this way. it really worked wonders on my boat, i had some spots that were not bad and some that were pretty messed up, it all looks new now. the deeper scratches weren't fixed but the minor surface ones were. hope that helps.

i use the buffer to put it on and sometimes to take off but ,here lately i have been taking it off by hand since most of the gunk was taken off the first time,.And you can buy it at most dealers,,bass pro, cabelas, west marine ,overtons, you name it Even some local auto parts stores and wally worlds carry it sometimes..Oh and if you go with the meguairs use the part number 91 power-cut compound its some good stuff too then follow it with the finishing wax/glaze
