    Any more ideas?

My new to me boat came with extremely sticky lids. Apparantly the old owner put really heavy carpet on it and then never used it, you'd get a hernia trying to open these things. After reading here, I got some shears and went to town on the carpet. I've gotten all the lids to open much better except for my 2 livewell lids. I've trimmed and trimmed and can't seem to get them from not sticking.

Two ideas I had are putting some type of lubrication (vaseline?) on the lid edges, or just taking some of the carpet off all together. Would it harm anything to just take some carpet off the lid edges? I plan on a total recarpet next winter, had too many other projects on it this year. Let me know what you think.

Taking the edge carpet off would allow the remaing to peel up easier.
If you are looking for a quick fix ( and are recarpeting in off season ) get some spray silicone and spray the edges, will lubricate and not make a mess like vaseline will.

I think Vasoline may dissolve the glue after awhile. If they are aluminum lids you may be able to bend the inside edges in a little to loosen them up.

Did you check the tightness of your piano hinges ? I would even check to see if the hinges are bent...

Use a Bic lighter flame to burn off the fuzz on the lid side and the deck. A few passes are all you need. That is what I did. It worked like a charm.
