    Sun damaged trailer fenders

    Gents,

My tandem axel trailer fenders have taken a beating in the sun and the gelcoat
clearcoat appears to be completely gone exposing the large faded silver metallic
metalflake. Is this fixable and if so is it a possible DIY project ?

    Thank you in advance.

    Jerry

Re: Sun damaged trailer fenders (jeraza)

Make sure it is the actual flakes you are seeing exposed. A lot of times the oxidation is so severe that it feels like the flakes are coming thru, when they are not.

Try wet sanding a test spot and see if that helps.

If the flakes are exposed, it all depends on what you want to spend.

Doing it back to factory will take spraying new gelcoat, which can be expensive.

Doing it yourself, you can prep them well and spray a clearcoat on them, if prepped right and kept waxed the clearcoat should last a good while.
