HELP....JUST RECARPETED MY BOAT.....LIDS WONT CLOSE OR OPEN

I Just had my boat recarpeted with 20oz carpet and the lids are super tight and was wanting to know the best way to Shave them down.

I think they use a beard trimmer to shave down the hinge side on the boat and lid. Then do the whole lid if needed.

Before you do any shaving, check your hinges, make sure they are not bent at all, and check all your screws for tightness. If no problems then shave away..

I re-carpeted my boat last winter with the 24 oz Bass Cat carpet. I just figure out yesterday that if I bend the lead edge of my doors slightly in using a hammer or an adjustable wrench they open and close with little resistance. The difference was huge. My Triton doors are aluminum, not sure what everyone else’s are. This way the only part sealing the two edges is the top surface that you see while fishing. Be sure mot to put pressure on the hinges while “adjusting” the doors.
