Yet another deck extension question-concerning weight.

I have access to aluminum, and the tools to bend/weld it. I'm building a raised platform area under the seats on my Hydrasports. Entirely of aluminum. It's MUCH lighter than wood. But it isn't very tall-3" or less.

I also want to put a deck extension on as well. Again I can use aluminum, but I'm not sure how to build the frame work without it weighing a ton.

For those with simple drop in extensions, what is holding the extension up?

i just bought an older 18ft hydrasport recently and want to do the same thing. I saw a forum on here for an older ranger deck extension but mine doesn't have the side storage for support so i am not sure what to do. so please keep this forum alive...and please add as many pics as possible. thanks

This is what I'm using for the seat platform. It doesn't look like much but for the Hydrasports owners with the seats on the floor, you will find raising them just a little feels MUCH better.

I've got a long way to go on this boat see this thread for more info

Any how I resined in strips of 3/8 marine plywood as shims for these aluminum brackets.
There looks to be alot of aluminum there.....And there is. But it is MUCH lighter than using the wood necessary to built something similar.
Once I get to that point, I'm going to have a piece of sheet aluminum cut to put over all of them. Despite the spaces between the brackets it will be plenty strong enough.
