I seen on here you sprayed your boat with Imron. I was wondering how its holding up and what you think about it in general??

Yes, I did get it sprayed with Imron and it looks good. There a few places where it appears he sprayed it a little thin but over all I'm pleased. He sprayed two coats and it is a totally different boat. I wish I had some before pics to show you how bad it looked but I don't so believe me when I say it was one of the worst oxidized boats you have seen. Now, the shine almost looks like factory gel. It took about a quart of clear to spray everything from the rub rail up, including both consoles. Bad thing is, the Imron MS 1 only comes in a gallon and it is $240 for the gallon kit. That is 1 gallon of clear, 1 quart of activator, and 1 gallon of reducer.
I don't know how it will hold up but if it works half as well as the rep and other guys I have talked to say it will, it should be just fine. I will tell you, don't shy away from it because of the cost and put an auto clear on your boat. If you do, you will be stripping it down in a year and putting something else back on. All the research I did led me to believe that Imron is the only way to go unless you get it re-gelled. I hope that I'm not wrong. Feel free to ask me anymore questions about it.
P.S. You might want to IM me so I find your question a little sooner

I figured you would find it sooner or later. Im happy to hear you are impressed thus far. What kind of prep work was involved? Did the oxidization have to be knocked all the way down?
Im thinkin about changing my purple boat to a urban camo with grey, blue and white. I would like to stay under the radar on our local lakes. Or atleast off the gaydar.![]()
Thanks Dustin

I removed all the fixtures i.e cleats, trolling motor, windshields etc... and wet sanded it real good. I started with 320 and finished with 400 per DuPont's recommendations. As far as the oxidization, there was some auto clear on it that had to be removed and I just sanded it down to a dull looking finish and the run off water was no longer milky. After that, I took it to the paint shop where he washed it, taped it up, and sprayed it. Only thing I would change if I had to do it again would be to have him spray 3 coats instead of 2 as there is a spot or two that look a little thin. It probably would have been ok with just 2 if he would have sprayed them a little heavier. He was a little concerned about runs and sprayed them light but for the most part it looks good.
I just had clear sprayed over the factory flake but it sounds as if you want to change your base. DuPont has a base which the clear is designed to be sprayed over that should work out real good. I have a phone number for a rep here in Ga. that could answer any questions you have about the product. Just let me know.
