Gelcoat... How far is to far gone?

Looked at a boat today. Really needs a cleaning, didn't see any stress cracks but the gelcoat looks pretty poor top side. Tried to upload a pic but file size is to big. Looks like there are small or hairline cracks. I am familiar with wet sanding finishes but I almost feel like it might chip out or flake. I will compress a pic and post it...

    Thoughts... thx

A pic will help but in most cases the gel won't chip or flake from being water sanded. What year is the boat ?

I just redone a 91 Stratos that color. Look in the NC forum under Boat Detailing. Those cracks are from heat and time. The owner new it was not possible to make it perfect but he wanted it as good as could be with out a re gel.
