I have a 86 ranger and the top clearcoat is flaking off and or totally gone. In spots where the clear is gone the red flake has worn down to silver. what can I do to fix the color and clear coat?

mine was like this.i sanded and sanded and cleaned till i could run my hand over it without the metal flake cutting me.then taped it and sprayed it.been 3 years now and it still sparkles.forgot the paper, real ruff start with then got down to 1500 grit, could not tell much using it.
how do i match the color?
did you sand all the clear down to the flake and then repaint and clearcoat?
most of mine was gone to the flake.i did not repaint, just sprayed clear on it.mine is brown with gold flake and the clear brought it out like it was new.
with your clearcoat gone , was your flake a silver color from sanding and the new clear brought it back? also with type of clear coat did you use?
yes a silver and gold.yes after all the cleaning and then spraying it looked great.dont remember the kind we used.i just went to local parts house that sold car paint and stuff and got it.
I bet it was Imron...that sticks to fiberglass the best..its an epoxy based paint. They use it on planes and 18 wheelers. The silvery spots will probably still be there...they are from the flakes laying over as you sand.
