Evinrude Ficht 250-No Oil alarm--Have Codes, Need help

    Motor is a 2002 250HP Ficht

    Model E250FPXSNF
    serial# 04990474

I got a no oil alarm this past weekend.Stopped immedeitly and let sit for a little while and tried to restart. Alarm came right back. I finally got my Ficht software to work and pulled to codes,

    Code 38- no oil pressure

    code 39- Oil Prime Failure

So where do I go from here to diagnose the problem and how to fix it. Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

If both codes happened at the same time, you probably have a bad oil injector and manifold assembly as long as nothing came apart on the intake oil line or you didn't run out of oil. They are super expensive new but can be rebuilt by http://www.dfitechnologies.com

    Thanks for the help!

Any chance an Oil Injector from a 2004 225hp Evinrude Ficht is the same. I have one of those (minus the lift pump)

also, should I test the injector doing the "static test" or is there a better way to diagnose before i pull the injector off and send it away?

Re: Evinrude Ficht 250-No Oil alarm--Have Codes, Need help (Danrude)

Thanks for checking those part #'s for me. i really appreciate it.

I guess that is good news. I might try to just swap out the pressure sensor first though. DFI's website listed that is a common problem for code 38 and 39.

I am worried about ruining the motor if infact the injector is bad and its not getting any oil. Can I run the motor on the hose for 10-20 seconds to see if I get an alarm ? I already started it a few times and let it run for 10 seconds or so when the alarm first happened. I am worried if there is a problem that I might cause damage by starting it without oil, or will it be ok at idle for a minute or 2?

I guess, in short, how long would the motor run at idle without damage if there is a oiling problem?

no sir, the Fichts,DI's, and Etecs can't be run on premix.

Premixing does not work for DFI motors, no fuel:oil mix goes through the bearings and pistons like in a traditional 2-stroke.

go by the manual, you have to purge, bleed, and prime the oil system before and while starting the motor.

Re: Evinrude Ficht 250-No Oil alarm--Have Codes, Need help (jeffro22)

man, I do some stupid stuff sometimes. I used a ratcheting wrench on the screw under the flywheel. Well, it got pinned against the flywheel and the screw wasn't out all the way. it is only one way so no way to reverse it. Now I have to pull the flywheel to get the stupid wrench and screw out.

anyway, back to the original problem.... I unplugged the oil sensor pressure switch, and the plug for it was loaded with oil. I am thinking that this causing the sensor to send a flase alarm, as the oil is problably completing the circuit between the 2 wires. I am going to get some contact cleaner and clean it out.

Thoughts on this? And if this is the problem, how do I prevent it from happening again?

The oil pressure switch only has one wire held in place by a screw! By chance are you talking about the connector for the oil injector? If you have oil inside the connector for the injector then you have a leak in the injector itself which would be your problem.

Hey Danrude, it is the switch on the back of the injector, that snaps into the injector with the same type of clip that the oil lines are held into the injector with. it has a short wiring harness with 2 wires and and connection to the main wiring harness. The connection is where I found all the oil (inside the plug). there was oil all over it, I have already wiped it clean. Thanks for everyones help so far

So do you guys think the oil on that plug was causing a false signal

My mistake that is a different oil pressure switch, it would probably have some seepage on it. The connector it was talking about is the one that plugs directly into the injector!

But do you think having oil inside that connector would have caused the alarm?

i am thinking the oil iside the wiring plug would have caused the alarm. any thoughts

I am not sure that oil would be a good enough conductor!

Yep, some of the early models (the switch and injector system was redesigned for 2002 and newer engines) had switches that may have internal leakage and oil was forced down the copper strands under the insulation and gathered in the connector. It was the cause of false alarms. Try substituting the pressure sensor first.

It should be "burbed" by leaving it loose, not latched in place, and have someone squeeze the oil bulb to force air out from around it, then push it up into the locked position.

Re: Evinrude Ficht 250-No Oil alarm--Have Codes, Need help (SEAHORSE)

Ok, I wish I would have read your post sooner. I just got everything back together, but didn't replace the switch. I just cleaned the sensor wiring and all is fine now. is started it and no alarm and everything seems fine. I ran it for about 10 minutes

So the oil is actually dripping down through the wires? I was thinking maybe it sat in the oil that leaks from the airbox when sitting. I gues I will monitor it and if it happens again I will replace the sensor with a new and improved sensor.
