    Which buffer

I have some oxidation and roughness on my 97 Skeeter. I've had it buffed out one time by a friend who does automotive work. He is no longer in business so I am going to try and get this done myself. I'm not sure that I need to wet sand, and if so, only with very fine grit. My question is this. I have seen the Harbor Freight buffer mentioned. They currently have teh 92623-aVGA for $30. I believe that it's variable speed and comes with several accessories. Will this do? I don't really want to spend $200 on a buffer since I won't be using it very often. Additionally, do I need anything extra in the way of buffing pads, etc.? Also what 3M product have you been using, and what final wax?

That buffer will work just fine. I used the terry cloth bonnet with the oxidation remover. I applied the oxidation remover by hand then buffed it off. Was less messy for me this way. Then used the wool bonnet that should come with your buffer to remove the wax.

Check my post for the answer to your questions. HF buffer is good enough. Buy a good pad from auto body supply. 3M product is pictured in post. I would compound before wet sanding. The stuff picteured is 20 bucks and works great to remove oxidation and polish.

    Re: Which buffer (wycough)

Thanks for the help. I ordered the HF buffer and I'll get some of the 3M product and get to work a couple of evenings. Nice work on that Champion! Makes me wish that I had my old Champion back. It was one of the best riding boats I've had.

I went to a local pawn shop and bought a $200 + DeWalt Variable speed buffer for $75. Even gave me a 30 day warranty with it. The thing works great and if I ever have a problem there's a DeWalt rrebuild shop here locally.
