    Carpet redo

My question-I'm redoing my carpet,do I glue my lids to the carpet first(so they don't move around while cutting&trimming)?,and what do you use to mark or trace patterns on carpet. My backing is black rubber and I can't find anything to show up. Thanks,Rick

Here is what I did. I tried what you just mentioned and it was very hard to get it right. I kept having to deal with excess glue and excess carpet. Then I used the old carpet as a template and cut every single piece according to what I had pulled. It was a breeze after I did that. I just glued them and folded them, If I needed to trim it was easier and if I needed to patch, I could cut a small pice and use it as a patch. Most pieces came out just right.

Just a suggestion. I just did my ranger and i just laid the lids down on the carpet face down. I laid my level against the lid and just used that as an edge to cut down. That left me about a 2" square all the way around the lid. then i just put the glue on the lid and dropped it in the middle. That way you only have to trim maybe about a 1/2" off when you wrap it around the sides.

Apply glue to the lids. Place on rough sized carpet then trim once the glue is dry. Use contact cement for the lid sides (inside and out). You can trim fairly well because the carpet won't move. I tried the level trick for trimming but my lids were a little deeper. Doing it this way worked well for me, but to each his own.

this is exactly how I did mine. I did use a little chalk to write on the back of my carpet thought to label what piece of old carpet came off which lid. Everything came out perfectly.
