    Tinting Gelcoat

I have an old Skeeter that I want to touch up a couple of spots where someone had plugged some holes on the bow. Maybe from an old trolling motor mount? It is Black metal flake. My thought was to tint some clear gelcoat with a black tint to an opaque color so that the small area that I have to coat will still allow some of the silver metalflake to shine through. Not sure what the holes where filled with but they are a medium brown color. I am sure I can't make them disapear but if I could hide them just a little I would be happier!

Thanks for any input on tinting gelcoat

    Re: Tinting Gelcoat (Extra260)

I would use black gelcote vs. trying to tint the clear gelcote. It will turn out better. Just don't sand through the existing clear gelcote or you will flash the black metal flake silver. Then it will not look good at all.

Just fill in the holes with black gelcote. Sand down with 400 grit paper, then 600, then 800. Once you get it sanded down, you can buff it out. It should look ok.
