appling clear coat over Interlux topside paint

    Hi Folks

I am repainting an older Ranger and I have a question about appling metal flake. I am using Interlux topside paint on the sides and cap (antifouling on hull) and need to know if I can clear coat over top and suspend metal flake in the clear coat? Will the Interlux need to be wet sanded to get a decent finish prior to clear coating? I was planning on brushing the Interlux and spraying the clear coat.

Oh by the way I have started the job and half way throughpainting the cap then decided to add the metal flake. Duh, duh, duh

Call Interlux and find out what they say. I am using Sterling myself and can use flake in the clear coat from what I was told.

I am having a hard time getting tech help from Interlux. I guess the big question is mainly is will the clear-coat adhere to poly paint.

I just got off the phone with a dealer of Interlux, they told me that if you put flake in the clear that it will come through the clear in 2 to 3 years. So on that note you are going to have to make a judgement call on what you want to do.

thanks for the input Guys. Now I know that why the old clear was so bumpy when I sanded it down. Maybe I will leave well enough alone and not apply the flakes. Boat is 100% better than it was anyways.
