    Holes in boat

    Good morning
I posted this in another forum and was told to go here. Long story short I accidently put some holes in the bottom of my boat. Not big holes but several of them. I bought a repair kit from bass pro because I wanted to fix it myself. (I have never tried before. ) I used the matting that came with the kit on the bottom of the boat and it seems to have set up good. I also used the resin and hardener on the inside and also seems good. I took it out Sunday and did not appear to leak. My question is should I put more than one layer of the matting on the bottom. The instructions did not really say. It said to sand it down after it set up but thought about putting at least another layer or two just to be save. Good idea or not?????
    Thanks for the help.

This really depends upon the damage that you are fixing. How big were the holes? Adding additional matting and resin will strengthen the area, but it will also make the repaired area thicker.

The holes are only 4 to 6 milimeters in diameter. Used a drill bit. Had water standing thought I would be smart and drill a few holes through what I thought was just an insert but went through the boat to.

Can you get at the holes from the inside? If so, I would put a layer of matt and resin their also. If you used some pretty heavy matt and suturated it good, you are probably fine with the single layer on the outside. If the repair area was bigger, I would reinforce it more.

I did not use the mat on the inside but I did use the resin. It did not leak when I took it out but thought maybe it might need a little more.
Thanks for the info. I will try the mat on the inside.

How did you prepare the outside surface before you put the mat on?

Sanded it down pretty good to smooth out the holes and get any chips out of the way.
