Need some hatches or a crafty hatch solution

Hello, new member here. One of ma peeps told me about this place.

Anyway, I just added a deck for fuel and battery storage to an old deepv 16.5 tiller. A sheet of deck is going to go over it. I wanted to get some hatches for access. Nothing fancy. Seen a few spots on the net and ebay, and its like almost $70 a crack. A bit too much for me.

I guess I can cut out a hatch and frame it up. Not sure how to frame it though. Plus, those cuts need to be awfully straight. Not sure i can do that.

I checked for boat yard in Illinois and havent found one yet. Would love to peel a couple of an old sylvan or alumacraft.

    Any suggestions?

    First, welcome aboard .

Get yourself some plywood for the hatch doors and aluminum angle (to match the plywood thickness) to trim out the hatch area. You can get as fancy as you want with it (edge trim, lock, etc.).
