What do you consider large? Can you see the glass? Is it a solid bottom or flake?
If it is a solid color gel it does not have clear on it
Flake bottom----several scaches (10) 3ft. long 3/4 inch wide but not into the flake.
Wanted to use nail polish one a few small one up on the rails--does it work???
You can see a diffference but yes it will work..It will not stay in forever or nothing like that, pick out a little spot and put some on..... you can always take it back off..
My main question is still unanswered------ Where do I get the clear fiberglass coating to fix the larger scraches on the bottom?????
It is clear gelcoat.
I have repared them wth both clear epoxy and fiberglass resin.
The resin is a little too brown in color (not clear). But a quality 2 part epoxy should do the trick.
I guessi misunderstood your question i thought you asked if you could use fingernail polish...as for clear gel you can probably find it at west marine , bass pro shops or about any of the boat builders, call bullet i am sure they will send you some be sure to use a surfacing agent when you spray it with a patch aid ......
clear is the worst gel as far as drying good before you sand and buff......
First post was a little unclear --would nail polish work on small scaches up top. where to get clear gel (larger quanity) to do bottom?
You've now answered both----THANX
What compound do you use to buff it out???
They have gelcoat repair kits at BPS. They have everything you need to do fixes like you are talking about. If you have a good buffer and a quart of 3m superduty rubbing compound (3M #5955) it will clean up scratches nicely. Don't forget to get some good wax on it.![]()
Let me get this straight. Use BPS gel coat repair kit to repair scraches in the clear gelcoat. Then sand in steps down to 1000 or finer sandpaper. then use 3m buffing compound to bring it to a shine ----then wax.
Have you personally used the BPS kit. I want tried and proven items. THANX JDB
No, I haven't use the kit from BPS. There's a store locally that carries a bunch of overstock junk. I found the gel coat repair kit that I used at that store. It didn't have as much stuff as the BPS kit does and it was a small kit so there wasn't enough. I am going to check out the one from BPS to finish my repairs.![]()
