    adding a jackplate

    I have a 1994 challenger sport pro 15.5 feet long. It has a 48 evenrude and is rated for up to a 85. I have a friend that is upgrading his motor and i am buying his 70 yahama. what kind of jack plate should i get. I was thinking it will help the ride some

    The ride? Maybe ... maybe not. It depends on whether the little 70 can lift the boat. If you are planning on running an aluminum prop, don't waste your money on a plate. If you plan to use a stainless prop, then a 4" jackplate would be a good idea. If nothing else, it will allow you to adjust the motor height to get the best fuel mileage. And you might just find a little added lift there, also. You'll never know if it will help until you try it. But at the very least you'll be able to get a few more miles out of this expensive fuel.
