Well, The fat lady is singing.
The insurance company wont pay a dime. They say the transom is rotted.
I hit something bad enough to jerk the boat sideways but "the lower unit doesn't show signs big enough to say "that hit" broke the transom. "The transom failed due to rot"
(that 'ole soft stump just didn't leave a big enough mark or take the LU off dammit)
Of course to prove what it is, is to prove what it's not, kinda thing. They consider it poor maintenance.
The only way anyone would ever know/find out, is to take off motor, take off top trim piece and dig into the wood which is sandwiched between the fiber glass. How would anybody know this problem existed until it failed.
Maintenance ? IDFN ......... Everybody should include having the transom checked in their yearly maintenance. Whatever it takes ...... even if it means tearing the inside glass off I guess. If you buying used ..... what is there to do ?
Soooo, short of running it head on into the dam, loosing the LU in the river or having a wreck while towing. Any insurance company will be the same as any other. Price of the policy, limits of liability should be the focus ...........IMO at the moment.
The jack plate bolt holes was sealed with normal silicone not 5200. And the top edge wasn't sealed properly from back wash seepage (the repair/surveyor guy says).
Nitro will not get interested, outa warranty (5 yr).
At this moment I'm left out in the rain so to speak.![]()
