    Trim Issues

I am having a problem on my tilt on a 2008 Etec. while on trailer or idling the trim seems to work fine. but while i am running the trim will only go to the top of the gauge and motor will only throw a very low tail. usually i could trim as high as i wanted without issue. is this just a fluid issue or is there something else i should check?

The trim is only the area where the 2 rams push against the motor, when the trim rams reach the end of their travel, the motor will not go any higher when at speed.

Now if your transom or set-back bracket is not the right transom angle, then you may not be able to trim the enough for best performance. The standard transom angle is 12° measured from the keel to the engine mounting surface. If it is less than 12°, then you will not have a full trim range on your rig.

i have had the rig for 2 years since new and until last weekend i did not have this issue. all of a sudden it will not trim up high enough to barely through a tail at motor height. this is no where high enough to get up on pad good

OK, now check the 2 trim rams, they should have flat caps (thrust pads) on them that screw into the rams. Those flat pads should contact metal rollers on the swivel bracket and that is what supports the thrust of the motor.

I've seen missing or broken rollers and missing pads, either of which will limit the overall trim range.
