Dealer said E-Tec rep recommended XD50 over XD100

I just repowered a couple months ago to an E-Tec 150 and my cousin got a new Stratos with a E-Tec 200 H.O. on it. We both have been discussing getting our engine switched over to run the XD100 with the dealer, but the dealer told us that he just talked with a Rep and they are now recommending the XD50 oil. The rep said something to the effect that they were not getting the perfomance that they thought they would get. Anyone else hear this?

Oil usage and performance is very application specific. What is best for one rig may not be the best for the other rig. While we are not in a bass boat market I can tell you everyone one of our saltwater repowers leave the shop set to run XD100. From a 40hp installed on a small whaler to a triple rigged larger offshore rig. The rigs we see that have poor oil performance are the larger boats that are rigged with a single outboard. The load on these engines are much more and thus use more oil. It is still alot less then if it was still set for the TCW3 oils.

I also understand that on the 2008 E-Tec's that the XD100 setting is not going to be an option. Why would they discontinue this?

Who is telling you this?? We have installed a few model year 2008 ETEC's already and all have gone out with the XD100 setting.

My dealer in Idaho is telling me this. I was just trying to verify the information. I also have seen it posted on here in another thread. So I am just trying to get clarification. I was gearing up to switch over to XD100. Unfortunately in Idaho we only have 1 E-Tec dealer in the State so this is my only method to find out if they are feeding me BS or not.

Re: Dealer said E-Tec rep recommended XD50 over XD100 (johnrude)

I just completed my FOURTH 10 hour round trip to get yet another software update on a motor with 30 hrs. After reading this thread I called BRP tech support and he emphatically confirmed that the XD-100 setting is not allowed on 08 engines and that ALL E-Tecs should be set back to XD-50!
When I asked what to do with my 5 gallons of 100 he said to use it at the 50 setting and no one will refund the difference.

The communication from BRP to dealers remains to be the worst I've seen. Now yet another long drive at my expense to get this done when the dealer should have been aware of this. It shouldn't be up to us to inform dealers what needs to be done to our engines.

So much for the so called no service for 3 years.

Re: Dealer said E-Tec rep recommended XD50 over XD100 (Springseeker)

The only thing I can think of is that people are getting confused with the new update that is being performed on the big block v-6's. This information is posted by seahorse at the top of this page. Your dealer should have been aware of this update about 2 weeks ago.

The biggest problem with online message boards is that many times items get posted with only half facts. I am going to call BRP Tuesday and find out what they are saying about this for the dealers in the US.

Sorry John, I am not trying to start anything. I look on the site to see if anyone else had been told this and found other had been. I am just trying to do what is best for my new outboard. I blew my ficht and had to get a new motor that cost more then I paid for the boat, so I don't want to go through that again. I have a waranty now and do not want to void it by not following factory recommendations.

    Three questions:

    When did you call BRP?

    What number did you dial?

    What was the person's name?

Re: Dealer said E-Tec rep recommended XD50 over XD100 (joevandal95)

Joe no reason to say your sorry. The reason why I watch message boards is sometimes BRP is not the fastest getting certain information out to its dealers. About 2 years ago I was blind sided by a customer that came into our store about some information that he read on a message board. I swore up and down that the information he was given was wrong. Well it turned out the information was correct. While this was not techincal information I felt it was vital information that dealer's should of know about.

I am not perfect and even I learn something new everyday. If you go to our web site and click on our shop cam link you will see a new 250 ETEC being installed on my own personal boat. I will be taking my wife and kids 50 miles out in the ocean with this rig and it will be set for XD100 with no worries about it.

Re: Dealer said E-Tec rep recommended XD50 over XD100 (johnrude)

The XD-100 is the best oil for your Evinrude or Johnson 2 stroke motor, as far as changing an E-TEC's EMM oil setting I would ask BRP customer service 847-689-7090.

Seems some of you have been told that you can not use XD-100 and this information is Incorrect.

As for the map update, Seahorse has a post pinned at the top of this forum listing the few motors...by model number....that can benefit from this map change.

Re: Dealer said E-Tec rep recommended XD50 over XD100 (RUSTY63)

Rusty, to clarify- Brp told me and advised me to continue using XD-100 but to set the engine for XD-50 so it would get more oil. He said the factory is no longer offering to program the XD-100 setting and urged me to reset to the 50 setting asap. This has nothing to do with map upgrades as I just got the latest and was still advised to set for XD-50.

The info Seahorse requested is posted above.

If that is what BRP customer service told you then that is what I would do.

Re: Dealer said E-Tec rep recommended XD50 over XD100 (RUSTY63)

rusty can ya call someone and clearify this as i am programmed for xd100.have been since 2005.if these need to be set back to xd50 setting i will have to run xd50 becuase of extreme high price of xd100. you would think a product that has no petroleum in it would not go up with the petro based oils.xd100 would be very costly to use at a xd50 setting .please clairify rusty or seahorse.thanx.
