Fished Onondaga Lake & Seneca River for a tournament Saturday. Using a silver buddy in the river 1st thing, was only able to get some small short smallmouth. Bait and fish busting all over the place. Tried crankbait, jig, jerkbait, topwater, spinner bait, you name it, had no luck. In 25 feet of water, the bait fish were so thick at 12 feet they resembled the bottom on the graph occasionally.
I ended up going out in the lake and worked a carolina rig around points in 12 feet of water. I did not draw a partner and was fishing alone. I caught a 4lb largemouth and thought I would end up being all right now that I figured out something. Next fish on, better than the 4 pound, I was to far away from the net and thought I cauld swing her into the boat, nope came off and boundced off the side of the boat and back in the water.
Next fish, I got one hand on the net one hand on the rod, the fish is going back and forth, can't get the net under her then it happens - she jumps and that was the last I saw of her, nice fish too.
I was talking to myself the rest of the day and never go another bite, my confidence smashed.
But it was a nice day to be on the water. A 6 1/2 lb LM was lunker for the day and a lot of big weights were brought in. Someone always finds them.![]()
