    Tilt trim issues

    2001 Evinrude 175 hp (model E175FSLSI) S/N G 04946935

Pistons are leaking... bought the new gasket and seal kit for $70 bucks got a quote for the labor at over $300, question is can I do this myself. Company I work for has a full time mechanic that can walk me through anything I cannot do mechanically myself but will it be worth the heartache?

    Thanks in advance

Usually the top cap wiper and seals will fix it, the assembly has to come off the rig to replace. If you've experience with hydraulics then you can save $$$ but other wise I would pay and have it done right.

Our mechanic just rebuilt our 70TN P and H hydraulic crane so he has a little experience. What exactly do you mean the top cap wiper?

The top cap of the trim pistons have a rubber "wiper" (seal) on them you need a spanner wrench or a special trim piston to remove them. It is all one piece.
