    Sebago Lake, Maine?

My family has a place in Harrison, ME and I do a lot of fishing up there but have never fished Sebago. I’m would like to try fishing the lake the weekend of the 29th. Anyone know of a few areas that I should try out? Also, are there any restaurants on the lake where I could dock the boat and get a bite to eat? I could launch at Long Lake and go through the locks or should I just launch from Sebago?

If you launch at Long Lake in Harrison and go through Brandy Pond into Sebago that is one long run. I went over the causeway Saturday on my way home and the wind was blowing down the lake and it scared me just looking at it. I would have hated to be out in that stuff. I've never been on Sebago but the ramp on 302 looks OK.

I've been to 3 free launches on that lake. Standish is simple and it access's the south end of the lake. The parking is plenty. The one in Raymond is also simple. The parking is about 20-30? So long ago, I don't remember. This will give you access to the North end. The ramp close to Point Sebago Resort is part of the state parks. It use to be opened at 0800. It would give you access to the north west end of the lake. Only been there once and had a fair amount of parking. I believe that you won't find a place to eat on Sebago unless you plan to leave the boat unattended and walk. Long lake had a few places on the strip that were good eats a while back. Let me know if I can help you some more.

standish ramp is not free to launch and parking has been drastically reduced. there is a guy running some sort of on the water eatery at the raymond launch now i believe. launching at state park would be closest place for you.

Boomer, What did they do to Standish Ramp. That was free for the longest time and the parking was plentiful. Town took over???

    Re: Sebago Lake, Maine? (Mac)

Boomer is right the Standish ramp is now I believe $15 pus $5 parking unless you are a resident and they cut the parking to at least half. This was after the long controversy with the water district..go figure the state put the ramp in, but owned by the town. Better off going to the newer ramp on the north end in Raymond. Parking is limited, but if you get there early you should be all set. I believe the store at the frye island ferry has food, but unless you want to sit down and eat you have to go through the locks into Brandy and eat at the causeway. To tell you the truth this time of year on Sebago is tough...imo the smallies move to much in search of baitfish. If you do decide to fish there stick to the backwaters abd fish the deeper structure (docks/trees) with jigs. This pattern doesnt produce a lot of fish, but qualtiy larry's. Good luck and if you need more info. just shoot me a PM. PS I will steer you away from that crap bowl.

dont let keith scare ya off of sebago. its a great lake with lots of big largemouth to be caught in the back waters. smallies this time of year are tough but can be caught as well usually need to look deep. i have caught many largies over 6 pounds there and a handfull over 7 and because everyone in maine is affraid of the lake for some reason its not pressured that much.

as for the ramp mac, keith is right. pissing match between town and water district ended with the town having a right of way to lake and all that parking got fenced off. there is maybe 30 -40 spots now and it fills quick.

I've heard it called many things. I've also heard "fill it in and make it a golf course."
To tell you the truth, I have never had a bad day on that lake and we have even had some great weight come out of there as well. One of my top 10 fisheries that I've been to.

    Re: Sebago Lake, Maine? (Mac)

Thanks for the info everyone. Think I'm going to launch from the ramp off 302. I'll be there around 4:30am, so parking shouldn't be a problem. I've fished many lakes in that area but have always stay away from sebago because I had a tracker until last year. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Re: Sebago Lake, Maine? (TMG)

Top 10??? Maybe in the Spring when they are on the beds. Like I said best bet would be to try the backwaters where you will get bit and have a chance at a few big larries. I am no pro on this lake, but have fished it a lot / done a few tournaments/seen tournament results, and the only time big weights are brought in is early and sometimes late in the year.

PS it's on my top 10 Worst

Good luck and let us know how you do!

Re: Sebago Lake, Maine? (Keith A)

I love fishing there in July, August and Sept. I haven't been in a couple of years due to work and missed going this year due to heavy rain day. I took Phil the last time and we had a bag probably around 25-28 lbs (8). I could be way off but I believe it was mid July. I'm sure phil has the dates written down. We had a blast and caught fish everywhere we went.

    Re: Sebago Lake, Maine? (Mac)

I was going to post about this place this week to and im glad someone else did. I have a tournament there in september and am going to prefish this coming weekend. Was hoping for some help on what to look for, not asking for specific spots, just what i should be looking for, deep structure, grass, etc. But you guys are saying stick to the backwaters. I havent had much of a chance to look at it online but this week when I do I am going to try and get a game plan going. Are there really that many backwaters to fish here? Any help is great and I have also heard good and bad of the place. Thanks a bunch guys.

In Standish at the intersection of rte. 35 and 114. Just north on 35 you will find the launch access. Maybe 150yrds. It's on the left.
