    Question about Manchester Area

Hey guys, I am going to school in Manchester, NH at Southern New Hampshire University, which is right on the Merrimack River. I am going to try and get my boat up here this coming spring, which is a 19'6" boat, if i can get a place to store it off campus for a month, i am looking at a storage place off of rt 106 but it is kind of expensive, but thats another story. I really want to get it up here to fish, if anyone knows a better place i would be able to keep it that would be great, but my question to you guys is, i see people running the river here and there, so i am wondering first if it is worth my time to fish it, and second is if its runable. I would use caution no matter what and take it slow the first time anyways but I am wondering if indeed it is runable in the manchester area. That and i know Massabesic isnt far from here either and may also try that, but really enjoy river fishing. Are there areas on the river that are better than others, if so maybe some ramp locations would help. I am doing a lot of looking around and exploring myself, but i thought maybe i could get a little help from some of the locals. Any information would be greatly appreciated, just want to catch some fish while im up here. Thanks so much! Mike

You would be better to run the river up in the Concord /Bow area.
There are a few different launches up there.
Some of the lakes in Southern NH would be my choice.
Most are are about an hour or less of Manchester.

Tyler's right 1 place that gets by passed because of the locals and the parking is the Piscataquag River or Kelly's Falls It's just before the West Side Ice Arena.Nice River and good fish. Welcome to the board

Re: Question about Manchester Area (GreatGrampa)

If you don't mind making a little hike, you can also go to the Nashua River. The ramp is off of exit 5 on Route 3, and is maybe 30 minutes at the most from Manchester, depending on how fast or slow you drive. I made it in 12 minutes in my Mustang once...but that's another story.

Other than that, what everyone else said should be enough to get you by.

Re: Question about Manchester Area (Michaelsoccer13)

You might be well served to get a Clarke's Fishing Guide (Northern Bass Supply $20). It gives you great directions to almost all the fishable water in NH. Some are walk in, some w/ launches but you might be surprised to see how much water might be in striking distance. Besides once the ice settles in you can do some re-con on where these lakes and ramps are for next year. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Re: Question about Manchester Area (EJmagnum186-NH)

Haha I didn't even think they had a guide like that. Only oneproblem, if i walk into Northern Bass Supply, I will have spent a lot more than the $20 for the guide.

And that's a bad thing? If you haven't been there, it's definitely worth the trip, great store with a good amount of inventory. And couple the Clarks Guide with a map book and you're golden, that's what I did the first couple of years when I started fishing again, without my Dad.

Re: Question about Manchester Area (Snover)

The part of the river that SNHU is on is between 2 dams and about a 7 to 8 mile stretch, I think. Yes, it is navigable and you can go down the middle WOT if it's at normal pool. Have fished it and caught many smallies but, all small. Good time for just some fun fishin'! The launch is located at Lambert's park at the Hooksett end of the river. Good ramp and good parking.

There is another storage yard north of the school on Rt 3. It is north of Riley's Gun Shop on the opposite side. It has a huge fenced in yard that has boats, cars, RVs etc stored there. I do not have a name or #. It is closer than Rt. 106.

As said before, get a Clark's book and do some recon!

Have fun and welcome to NH.

Re: Question about Manchester Area (Bugs)

Bugs- yes i know the place your talking about, i stopped by last year over there and the only problem is there is no power, i need to be able to plug the boat in so that the batteries can charge while im not using it. Otherwise i would go there. As for the river thanks for the input, ive been driving around and theres plenty of power boats on it so i can only assume it has to be runable, i figure ill go slow for the whole strecth once and map a line i can run and go with that. And i have been to Northern Bass, i am not new to new hampshire, i love being up here and love the fishing, just hate having to sit on my butt some days and look at the water and know i could be fishing; but thats life i guess. haha. if anyone of you guys has a tournament up here and needs a partner let me know, im on the board all the time and could message someone my number, id love to get into some tourneys up here. Like everyone else, i just wanna go fishin!
