    Connecticut River

Saturday we fished the Conn river out of Charles town. The ramp sucks like most of the ramps in the state, however, the fishing was pretty good. In the morning the fish were feeding on crayfish in shallow water where there was bare sand next to weeds. Later in the day we found them on weed lines next to deep water. I was using a small crawdad color crankbait and my partner a gold colored spinnerbait. I had 2 largemouth around 3 and probably caught 30 smallmouth all keepers.

what's wrong with the ramp ? Was there a current ? They used to draw on Sundays, does that still hold true ? Sounds like a good day

    Re: Connecticut River (Jazz)

The ramp is like the one at Stumpfield (you know the concrete slabs), most of the slabs are broken leaving big holes. Its just a shame the state can't get its act together and fix the ramps, there are so many out there that need repair. Didn't notice that much current, just a little windy. We've always fished it on Saturday, I don't know if they draw on Sunday or not. You can always launch on the Vermont side, just can't weigh-in fish.

I fished the Connecticut River last year, october I think. We launched in Vermont
Caught a 3 1/2 pound largemouth on my first cast but went down hill from there.
still did ok but was a long ride for what we caught.

    Re: Connecticut River (TMG)

Tim, my house here in NH is up for sale and I'll be moving, winter time to FL and summer to NY. I've kind of been going by G-Boat because I guess I'll have to phase out FishNH. My buddy Jazz is always a regular here. I know a lot of the Mass guys fish NH, don't know why they don't do any posting.

Tim, I've had some real good days and also some real bad days on that river. A few years ago I pre-fished it for a tournament and caught so many smallies (on the flat before the island that is now gone) I had to quit I was so tired. Come tournament day I got skunked.

Tim we actually have had a place in Lake Placid FL for about five years. But, we're selling it and moving to a new home (in Winter Haven) closer to Tampa and Orlando. When we sell the house here in NH and my wife retires in January we'll head down south. The summers we'll spend on Lake Champlain.

Sandy, was wondering, why can't you weigh-in on the Vt. side?

You could weigh-in there if you have a Vermont license, but I wouldn't get one just to weigh-in.

    Sandy,
If I understand you correctly, if we have a NH license and put in on the Vt side of the river, we would need a Vt license to weigh-in on the Vt side. Is that right?

    Re: Connecticut River (Bugs)

You're in Vermont. Bugs that's always been our understanding, you need a Vermont license to weigh-in in Vermont, a NH license to weigh-in in NH. I wouldn't want to get caught. Also, watch the walleye. We had a guy in the club get caught with a 17 3/4 inch walleye, they fined him and took his license. The fish cop asked him if he had any bass, he said no but I have a walleye. The cop took the walleye, told him it was short and kept it for his supper.

    Re: Connecticut River (FishNH)

Sandy, thanx for that info. I guess we better rethink our weigh-in location when we fish the Ct. River. We have never even that a thought but it kinda makes sense. Both states water but, we would be standing on Vt. state property with a NH license.

    Re: Connecticut River (Bugs)

We've thought about it because of the bad ramp on the NH side, but didn't want to take a chance. Like I said, you would be in Vermont and that river is patrolled probably more than other places by both states. The NH ramp is usable as long as the water isn't too low, just watch the broken out side. I have a dual-axle trailer and its the only ramp I have had trouble with, one axle pops up. My buddies boat did the same thing.
