I believe you can do that 2 weeks earlier than the rest of the state (same date as Walleye opener). There's another reason the DNR doesn't make sense. They open the north east corner of the state 2 weeks earlier than the rest of the state. I sent a letter to them asking their reasoning...Tradition. No biological or ecological sense, just good ole tradition.
You can head to Iowa, or to the river. I am headed to Iowa this weekend for some fishing, I cant wait!!
Come on down to Iowa boys. Its only fair, since I go up there all the time and catch your bluegills and walleyes, that you come down here and enjoy some early spring bass fishing.

Actually, Pool 2 is open to catch and release Bass this time of year. It's the only place in MN open for Bass (Which goes back to the question WHY???)
I made it out today for the first time. We caught 11 bass in less than 4 hours. Not a bad first outing.
