WTH!! Bellville
I have never seen this lake so "off " this time of year, or maybe it's just me? There is a abnormal amount of dead floating fish of all types to indicate that spring has been weird. Out of three days I caught only 12 fish only one would have been a decent keeper.
Any one else???

Re: WTH!! Bellville (DennisB.)
The lake sucks, always did.
I caught a bunch of smallies off the beds a week ago there at noon in some clearer water. Best one was 3 lbs. Tons of dead fish... Every year I see that there.... Something is wrong with the water for sure.

Re: WTH!! Bellville (21XDC)
I lived in Michigan back in the 50's and early 60's and fished most of the trout streams in the northern part of the state but primarily the Rifle and the Au Sable. Fishing was good. Been back there three times to fish and have found that the fisheries have went seriously down hill over the years. A few years ago we fished half a dozen lakes in the northern part of the state and the UP for bass and pike and the fishing was terrible. Last week, I went back up and fished the Rifle River with three of my brothers and we never caught a single trout. Talked to DNR at the river near Omer and they said this wasn't the "right" time for trout. When we fished that river many years ago we fished it throughout spring thru fall and caught fish. Guess I now wonder when the "right" time is?
I hear the walleye fishing is pretty good around Saginaw Bay but when it comes to trout . . . . . .

I grew up on the Ausable River in Oscoda. Fishing has gone down hill in my opinion too.
