I fished the FLW College Fishing tournament last Saturday. The water was 39-44* depending on where you were on the lake. Both me and my partner fished all day without a bite, except for one gar on a jig. We threw jigs, spinnerbaits, shaky heads, crankbaits, T-rigs, wacky rigs, jerkbaits, Rat-L-Traps, and just about anything else you can think of. Mainly we fished cypress trees (go figure) and bridge pilings. We fished a few docks as well. We just couldn't find the fish.
The guys who won had 4 fish for 15-15. They were throwing PB&J football jigs around some docks on the east end of the lake around the corner from the ramp. They said they drove around the night before looking for docks with the most lights on them where fish would gather for warmth. They were the only team who turned in more than one fish. Only seven teams (out of 40) caught any fish, and only ten fish total were caught between eighty guys.
The west end was quite a bit more stained (~6" visibility), with the east end by the dam being relatively clear (~2 feet visibility). The east end was also a couple degrees warmer.
Good luck if you're going to Cross any time soon. You'll need it right now.
