i have an 01 225 evinrude. buying a new jack plate. how do i rig up on the motor. had a old boat a while back and it had a lifting eye built on it. this one does not. dont want to break anything. not going to have to unhook anything. just need to hold it in place long enough to unbolt old one and bolt up new one.
See if your local dealer will let you borrow one or rent it, if not you can make one fairly cheap and it will be a good tool to have in your box too. Go to a parts store and purchase a harmonic balancer puller, some large washers and 3 5/16" 24 (fine thread) bolts 3.5-4" long and an eye bolt. Thread the bolts into the flywheel and lift the motor. Make sure you coat the threads of the new bolts with anti-seize grease or they gall on you. Stainless on Stainless will tend to head an lock up on each other.

be careful when you thread the bolts in and don't go to far ,theys some stuff in there that can be freged up.I put the same motor on my nitro last summer and read that somewhere,

Never hurts to clean out the hole and threads on the flywheel.
Those 3 little bolts and the flywheel hold The weight of the motor. Guess I'm going to try it out. Any chance you could email me a pic. Of what im putting together. Or a link with a pic or a how to. I'm pretty sure I got it but hate to mess up.
