Aaron,
Where did you fish? what was the water temp?
Earl,
Fished Tenkiller Lake (Oklahoma). Water was 54 degrees. Tried cranks, spinnerbaits, hula grubs, C-rig. Not a bite. Came closer to catching the loon I chased around than a fish...................![]()

I feel your pain, I can find a fish every so often but my biggest problem is I dont have the patience to fish that slow! I actually headed out to the river on Sunday with the intention of fishing, I hit 2 spots and fished for a total of 10 minutes and didnt catch a thing (had one hit a crank bait but didnt stick him, not sure it wasnt a white). Then I guess my A.D.D. kicked in and I decided I had rather take the boat for a good spin so aired her out for about 40 miles... sure was a good day for itBut then when I went to take out there were a couple of guys in a Bass Tracker taking out, so I asked them if they did any good and they told me they had caught 6 and they were all good fish 2lbs+. So I proceeded to kick myself in the butt for not fishing
Oh well, still had a good time

BTW, I was seeing water temps anywhere from 47-54 depending on if I was out in the channel or back in the back waters.
You don't have to fish slow in the cold water! Thats just what people think! Cold water is the best time to catch them on a crankbait (wiggle wart) and a Jerkbait!!! Get up north here and we can put you on them... MAYBE![]()
I agree, you can catch fish on crank baits during the winter, but your overall presentation is a lot slower than the rest of the year. We caught several fish a couple of weeks ago in 54* water throwing 200 series Bandits, started out trying to work them slow with lots of pauses and when I finally caught a couple I realized the casts that they hit on I was actually working it pretty fast so we adjusted and caught a few more. But once the water dips below 50* for me it seems like you have to work things really slow and just about have to put the bait in front of the fish to get them to bite. Maybe its different in the deeper lakes like Bull Shoals. I've caught some of the biggest fish in my life working a suspending jerk bait extremely slow in cold water.. it will produce but to me it gets very boring![]()
you are right, generally you have to slow down, but not always.... Some days they want it slow, but even in the winter some days they want that reaction! The crankbaits bounces off them rocks and the whack it! But your right it could be different up here. Deep and clear! Sucks 90% of the time, but if you can catch em in the 10% it sure can be fun!!!
I get to net Jay's fish when he catches them in cold water on a jerk bait.![]()

But man is he a excellent net man!!

Did it still have my lemon lime 100 series bandit stuck in it's mouth...... Broke my line with my favorite crankbait.
No, they didn't have any bandits in their mouth...but they sure were fun to catch
I couldn't really get into em, but my dad caught about 15 or so...all of good size
Both of those pictured were right at 10 lbs...
