Man, the weather here really changed yesterday. At 3 pm it was 73 degrees. At 4 pm it was 50 and hailing with winds gusting to almost 40 mph! What a change in such a short time!
Supposed to get more snow Saturday and Sunday. Oh well. I'll just bring up more wood for the fireplace and just sit back and enjoy the Olympics and the fire at the same time. Or, run down to the river and do some trout fishing. It NEVER gets too cold to jump into my waders and fish for trout
Temp was about 20 when I went down to the river today around 11:00 to do some trout fishing. Caught a nice rainbow on the third cast. Two more in the next five or ten minutes and that was enough for me. The guides on my rod were freezing up, my hands were frozen, that north wind was a blowing and all I could think of was a hot cup of coffe and a bowl of hot soup. My gloved fingers were too large to fit in the hemostat I use to remove the hook so I had to remove my gloves each time I caught a fish and that was my undoing.
Spent the rest of the day tearing apart my reels and oiling/greasing them and respooling them as well. Nice and cozy in the house in front of the fireplaceJust call me a "wuss"
Anybody else give it a try today

Of course, the most I got out of the house today was to get more firewood.....................
I s'pose I'll join the "wuss brigade"...................

Wussies!!! heck guys, I got up yesterday morning and saw it wasnt going to be too bad around here so I hooked up to the 'ol bug boat and headed to the river. First spot I came to I was amazed, I had a white booyah spinnerbait with a colorado blade tied on, expecting to have to bump that thing slowly across the bottom when I saw it! hundreds of 4-7lb Largemouths breaking the water jumping up and catching little sleet pellets in their mouths... I sat there for a minute in amazement while trying to think of what I had in my boat the looked as natural as sleet falling but I didnt have anything. So all I could think to do was to pull out my horny toad rod and put a solid white one on... Nothing on the first two cast, they just seemed to ignore it, but on the third "BAM!" 6 1/2lb LM, after that it just seeemed to start a feeding frenzy, I lost count around 76-77, smallest was 4 1/4lb and the largest was pushing 8, I dont think I ever made more than 2 casts in a row without having to set the hook... man what a day, if I would of been a wussy like the rest of y'all I would of never experienced it. Oh and to top it off, with that really cold air in place my little VMax was really making some sweet power, set a new top speed in my boat of 92.1... not bad for a 150
Oh heck, I was just reading through that post and realized I forgot to put in it about how that was all a dream I had yesterday while I was all warm and toasty snoozing in my recliner...
