August 25, 2011, Lake Guntersville Fishing Reports – Spent the day on the lake with a client from Ashland KY. Fish are scattered and unpredictable for the most part. You can find a few fish on the shallower grass early in the mornings, but the best fish are still being found in 8-18 FOW on ledges/drops with scattered grass close by or road beds with muscle shells on them. Most fish where in the 2-3.5 pound range and numbers being caught are holding, with a daily average of 15-30 fish. There are several schools of bass roaming the lake and which can drastically increase your numbers, if you locate one of them. Water temps have dropped a few degrees to 82-87 and even that is depending on the time of day. Our better fish came on Tightline Football Head Jig’s (Black/Blue and Guntersville Special) and t-rigged OL’ Monsters, and top water baits. There is a top water bite both early morning and late afternoon on Assassinator buzz baits, http://www.assassinatorbaits.com. The frog/rat bite has started but is slow and will only improve from here on out, as water temp’s drop and the fish start to feed up for the winter! For those inquiring minds that have been asking about the grass conditions, I’ve posted a couple of photos of the grass located above Goose Pond on my website. I'm already booking days for the September and October, make your reservations now for some great late summer/early fall action on Guntersville, Nickajack and Tim’s Ford.
