    Lake Martin Alabama

    Hey guys....
I'm thinking of travelling down to Alabama for the WVU-Auburn football game Sept. 19th. I was considering coming down a few days early and fishing Lake Martin. It is about 45 mins. NW of Auburn. A few questions please....
    1. Is this also called Logan Martin?
    2. How large of a lake is it? Appears to be nice size lake.
    3. Is this a good time to fish this lake?
    4. What can I expect as far as type of fishing, deep or shallow, etc....
    5. What is the predominate type of bass their, spotted or largemouth.
Thank you very much for any assistance!!!
Also I practice 100% catch and release!!!!!!!

I wouldnt waste my time coming to that game... We are gonna beat you .

    Just kidding.

I came up to West virginia last year when we played.

Martin is a nice lake. but you will be close to jordan if your staying close to auburn.

    Re: Lake Martin Alabama (fishing02)

Well first off, I was TOTALLY IMPRESSED by the way the Auburn fans travelled to WV. The folks I met were awesome. We invited several to stop at our tail gate as they walked thru the light blue lot where we tailgate. I was thinking being 45 mins away the roooms will be cheaper and it will also be less crowded pulling a bass boat!!!!!!! '

So is Lake Martin worth the trip or not?

    Thanks again!!!!!

Yes it is worth the trip. and also you will be close to lay lake and it is a little bigger.

But mitchell is hitting good in the morning and late right now.

Got a buddy that fishes down there.

Might see you at the game i go to all of them.

Your welcome to come by our tailgate..

And i am glad your a nice WVU fan because the ones we run into were jerks and a**Holes but they were younger.

    Re: Lake Martin Alabama (wvu_tim)

Yes I would go down early and bring the boat. Martin is a nice clear/light stained water lake with alot of nice fish in it. Another thing to consider is that is the same week that the elites will be fishing lake Jordan and alabama river for the angler of the year chase, so you could possibly go and check that out as well. your options of where to fish that week would be endless, with lakes jordan, mitchell, martin, Lay, the alabama river, and yates lake all being within about 20-40 minutes of where you would want to stay.

They all have spotted bass and LM in them, the coosa river spots are FUN to catch and man they pull like a freight train. If you go to Lake martin i would focus on the main lake points and creek mouths/secondary points in 8-16 feet for schooling bass that time of year, especially if we get an early cold front which I doubt but it is possible.

One more thing, lake Martin is and easy ride to Auburn/Opelika area, hit 280 (4 lane) and will take you directly to Alexander City on the north end of the lake, hotels are there also. Large lake is an understatement......not for open water but for miles of shoreline. Believe it or not, most of the time a fall cold front doesn't hurt fishing at Martin.

I would suggest coming down to Lake Eufaula. It is @ an hour from the stadium and the fishing in my opinion is much better if you want to catch big fish. War Eagle!

    First off...WAR EAGLE!

Second...I agree with Jay that your choices are so many you wouldnt know where to start. You might as well make a week long trip of it and fish them all! I live about 10 minutes from Lay Lake.

If that is the case I would travel a little further south and fish Lake Eufaula. But if it is those two options I would probably go with Lake Martin.

Dude I wouldnt get your hopes up too high, sept aint no rockin month normally in the south, you are gonna have to fish for em no matter where you go,lake martin would be last on my list.the easiest ones for you to catch fish(in a reasonable driving distance) on will be jordan, mitchell, and eufaula in that order.
