    Alabama River/Cooter's Pond??

I have a tournament at Cooter's Pond on Oct. 23-26. I have never even heard of this place, if any of you living around the Prattsville area would be so kind to give me a point in the right direction, not your secret hole just whats types of things work or especially any NAVIGATIONAL HAZARDS... would be greatly appreciated.

Any info would be greatly appreciated....

    Thankfully,

    Tommy

    Hey Greg,

I'm sorry to hear that about your boat. If it helps any we've had our share of problems over the summer as well. Jackplate burned up and had to replace $1300 and then starter went out on motor. Haven't been fishing much over the summer. Thanks for the offer to drop a line if you go. I greatly appreciate it. I'm mostly concerned about running and nav. hazards.

    Thanks,
    Tommy

What gets me is out of all the lakes in AL, they have us going to a river that you can't get any info on. So its home cookin for the locals for sure. I'm not really complaining, I am blessed to be going. I really like all the different people you meet and its a different atmosphere than bfl or bass. Good luck to you fellas.

I'm no expert on fishing out of Cooter's pond, but I'l tell ya what I know. Coming north out of Cooter's it's pretty much all river run with few creeks or big sloughs. About 25 miles you will come to a fork where the canal goes straight and the right goes to the city of Wetumpka with a bridge over the river. Be very careful if you go past this bridge fore there are some mean rocks that have taken many a motors foot. Jay Yelas fished way up into this area during a Bass TX but the water was about ten feet higher.

Heading south out of Cooter's there are more creeks, sloughs and flats. Most fishermen go this way during tournaments. There are no really bad hazards on the river and the shallows are maked with boueys. The farther south you go the wider the river will get and you will start seeing the stump filled sloughs and grassy flats.

As far as baits and colors...I love a chart/white buzzbait with a gold blade first thing. I also like junbug colored Zoom horny toads in the grass. Spinnerbaits in white/chart, culprit redshad worms blk/blue jigs, rattle traps they all work. You may want to bring a couple of the same baits because one of our 4 lb spots will tear up a lure!

my advice for ya if you have a glass boat........don't go in the rocks this time of year. Normal dam release is 1 generator at about 2100 cubic feet per minute, water is very low. If the water is up, you still need to know where you are going or risk damage.
