    Fluorocarbon line

Does anybody here use a mono backing to fill the spool up some (like you would do with braid) with flourocarbon? Or do you just fill the spool up with fuorocarbon? Does filling it completely with fluoro cause any kind of issues (backlashing, knotting up, and other fun things such as that?) I have been using seaquar and had no problems. Then i filled a reel up with it and it gave me a fit, however, i think i got that issue pretty well taken care of. Then i purchased sufix castable fuorocarbon 14# test and it has been nothing but a nightmare. Need some opinions on what everyone else does. Thanks

I use backer no matter what line I use as the main. There really is no reason to fill a spool with your main line IMO.

I keep the same reels on the same rods, so it works for me. Flip sticks get 30 yards of main line. Casting setups get double that. I have a few that are for shorter casting, and they might have a little less than the normal ones.

I can change line out more frequently, and still spend the same amount as before.

Casting setups line change is less frequent than my flippin stuff. My flippin lines get beat up much more and I make more bait changes, or cutting off a foot or two because of knicks and such.

I also use backing to fill my reels before i top it off with flouro. Saves money, and if i've already used the 1st 50 yards of line then its time to replace because of the diminished casting distance.

Yes and amount varie with reel. I got one of those cheap line counters to try to measure out the fluoro going on so I can maximize the use of the line spool.

that's exactly what I was thinking, does the counter really work? 200 yd spool of seguar, # 1 10lb test, # 2 20lb test, 100 yd's each? 2 refills per reel

    Re: Fluorocarbon line (quixtr)

The cheap counter can be a little tough to get to work sometimes depending on how the line goes throught the roller. Its kind of a piece of junk, but I make it work. 2 spools off of a 200 should be easy with most reels with any kind of backing. Heavy line you should be able to get 3 in some cases...20-25 lb.

I use heavy line as backer. 20 or 25 lb. I wrap with electrical tape, 1x to secure backer. I tie main line to spool, not backer.

Like Steve was saying, a cheap line counter is great. BP has one for like 9 bucks.

Buy the cheapest 15lb mono you could find for backing. I do this for all line types.
Why do people fish, some say people fish to get fish, this is obviously false
