    need pointers

I'm pouring jigs and shaky heads and selling locally. I hate the eyes being powered painted but have yet to figure out how to keep this from happening. I take a knife and remove the paint from the inside. Any suggestion on how to do this without the knife? Also, making jigs and the weedguard. I put a nylon heat resistant peg in them when I powered paint, do I take it out to bake or leave in? Heating is also a problem, it seems some paint go on with very little heat and others don't stick well, not sure the reason.
    Thanks

Not sure what you mean by the eyes being powder painted. Are you putting eyes on the jig before or after you powder paint ? You need to either glue the eyes in after you powder paint or do some type of clear coat over the whole jig and is what I do.

Take the peg out of the jig before you bake. I take them out right after I powder paint.

What are you using to heat the jigs ? Get you a Heat Gun and will make the job a lot easier.

    Good Luck

I meant the eyelets of the jig and shaky, sorry. Heat gun seems safer too?

If the eyelets are constantly getting clogged I would say you are getting too much powder on the head. Are you using a fluid bed for the powder?

Get yourself a jig eye buster. They are cheap and work really well. Make sure you bust the paint out of the eye before you bake the jig heads. I use a fluid bed, but some colors seem to be a little thicker than others so I still need to do this from time to time.

Ok, I still dont understand the fluid bed? You can't just dip the jig head in the powder coat and then bake it??

    Re: need pointers (Swerve-n-Protect)

Very simple...go buy some 1/8" shrink tubing. Cut it in 1-1 1'2" sections. Place the tubing over the eye of your hook, preheat your head with a torch or butane lighter for 2-4 seconds (depending on weight of the head) the tubing will curl and melt a little, so you will develop a "sweet spot" for holding the tip of the flame in relation to the jighead. Swish in your powder that has been fluffed by an fluid bed or in the jar with a small screwdriver, VERY quickly, this too will be up to you to get your timing down, hang the painted jig for a few minutes in a place where the jig(S) will not be touching anything, let cool a couple of minutes, snap off the shrink tubing and cure in a designated oven. I use a toaster oven....hope this helps!

We simply use a peice of spinnerbait wire after we dip the heads and run it immediatly thru the eyelet then hang it on the oven rack we havent had any problems with this at all .

fluid beds keep the paint fluffy and when you heat the jig up with the heat gun and swish it through, the paint goes on evenly every time. In the jar is packs up and does not go on evenly or thin.
    Question everything!

...and you dont have any issues with rough spots on the inside of the hook eye from the wire? I'll have to try this!!
