    Jig Making

Hello! Im looking to get started in making my own baits. I figured id start with jigs then gradually move onto the hard baits. Any tips? How about equipment, i have been looking on Do-It molds a lot and also just a simple melting pot. Also wheres the best place to buy the skirts?

Thanks everyone, i plan to start a little business locally just to make some extra cash. I know i through out a lot of questions. As for lead, could i go to local garages and get used tire weights?

The best source is tackleunderground.com. Excellent place to lurk and also ask questions, but most of your questions WILL be on there. The guy to look for is "cadman". He has a whole article on what "to get" and expectations. If you are looking to make money, you might get discouraged but still worth a try (look at all the "new" jig makers out there...a ton of them!!) I like you was thinking the same thing but more so as to save money as I'm a jig fisherman and making my own allows me to "create"!
I spent roughly $400 on my "start-up kit" which included Lee Pot, Lead (local recycle center) molds (Do-It) and materials. I've been doing it for a little over a month and I all ready poured over 100 jigs and all ready have a line of guys asking for me to pour and tie them some. I'm addicted and am going to have a Mold modded to my liking but the Do-It molds are GREAT!!
    Have fun!!

I think Will about covered it. It's addicting, that's for sure!

Can't say i've really made any money at it, but i enjoy doing it. Not only is it cool as hell to catch fish on a bait you made, it's double cool to see OTHER people catch fish on a bait you made!

Tackleunderground.com is full of good info. Get a cold six pack, kick back, and learn.

Great advice given here! TU will be the key to getting 'short-cuts' and I am sure some guys will jump in on here from time to time to help. I have about a grand wrapped up in molds and pots and I have had a great time creating baits for myself and friends. Welcome to the club...so to speak!!

I don't care if I ever make a penny with my jigs as long as I keep having fun making them and the satisfaction of catching fish on them is there. I know I will win a tournament or place high enough on them soon so I will nreak even in costs that way I suppose. To me I love dreaming up a color combo then making it happen. Best thing I have done in a long time is start building my own.
