    e-tech motor

Hi have a 40hp e-tech and i was running at full throttle and the fuel line got knocked off. The engine stalled and could not start up again. Had to get towed back in after drifting for 2 hours?? What do I have to do to prime the motor again? Why was this motor designed like this?? It's not that safe for open ocean use. Could someone please advise?? Here in Hawaii once you by the boat, your pretty much on your own.

when you squeeze the bulb to prime it, hold the bulb straight up and down. My mech told me it works much better that way A guy in my club thought his bulb was not working and sat their squeezing it over and over, I told him to hold it straight up and it got hard in just a couple squeezes.

Your motor, just like your car, other newer outboards, and some other modern engines is fuel injected, which means there is a high pressure pump, pressurized fuel plumbing, and electrical injectors. To run right, the injectors need a good amount of pressurized fuel with no air in it.

When there is no gas getting to the electric pump, then air gets into the system and the pressure drops until the motor quits. Now you have to prime the fuel system to get liquid gas up to electric pump, then the system has to bleed all the air out of the lines and then from the injectors. By cranking the motor over, it takes a long time to clear out the air.

etecs don't have a high pressure pump. the high pressure is created by the injectors. the fuel pump is relatively low pressure.

    Re: e-tech motor (gilly)

E-TEC uses an electric fuel pump called a high pressure pump - 20-35 psi - just like almost every other computer controlled low emission outboard engine does.

A diaphragm lift pump - about 5-15psi - withdraws fuel from the boat tank and delivers it to the high pressure electric pump, which in turn keeps the fuel rails under pressure while circulating the fuel through each injector. Each individual injector can be considered a pump also.

When air gets into the fuel system, it takes a while to be completely bled out of each part and each pump besides the fuel lines.

30lbs is not high pressure. etecs have 600lbs at the nozzle injector. mercury has 100lbs, yamaha has 1000psi
