    8ft glass crank bait rod

At ICRBE I decided to acquire another long crankbait rod. The folks at Swampland helped me zero in on a glass blank designed and built by Al Jackson and I love it.

I made some custom carbon grips for it, with the front grip having ridges for your fingers and is slightly eliptical. The Batson counter weight was milled to fit, and is spot on for balancing the rod right at the middle of the reel seat. Micro guides with a dbl foot K style size 8 first stripper guide then #4s to the size 4 tip. Casts great and handles great.

looks awesome. i hope that blank becomes more available. I read about it on RB.org and i'm dying to try one out. I love cranking and i love glass! any idea how much the blank weighs?

I do not recall what the blank weight was. I compared it to a shorter Seeker blank and it was proportionately lighter than the Seeker. Swampland is the only one with this blank, just call them and ask for the Al Jackson 8ft crank bait special blank I believe he referred to it as a CB801.

They have a scale and can tell you what it weighs, I just can't recall.

I have a Batson 8ft graphite crank rod and I may just take it off the boat until summer rolls around and I am throwing the heaviest baits, as I like this new rod so much more.

that rod was US made to Al's specs - it's a good bit lighter than a comparable Seeker. The main issue though is being produced. You may very well have a one of a kind.
